Combined cycle power generation basics and the influence

Combined cycle power generation basics:

A combined cycle power generation process consists of 2 kinds of energy conversion cycles joined and placed together or utilized together to recover energy and to reduce wastage of energy.

for an instant combined cycle gas turbine power generation process consists Gas turbine and stream turbine as a main energy conversion systems.

1.HOW..???
A gas turbine which uses Natural gas or Liquid fuel( like diesel..)  for combustion and utilizes this flue gases to rotate turbine and a synchronous machine will be coupled to it will utilize this rotating energy and converts it to electric power by electro magnetic induction.

The flue gases after hitting the turbine will be used to heat the water to convert into steam....in boiler here we call it as waste heat recovery boiler or heat recovery steam generator

The super heated steam will hit the steam turbine and resulting in rotation of generator which generates the power. so instead of leaving the flue gases after hitting the gas turbine, here utilized to recover more power from it

2. Why....? why we should combine generation process??

Main advantage of combining two processes is saving the energy, because energy from natural gas is not an easy source of energy, secondly saving of space and cost for the systems

building a thermal power plant huge practice and which result in enormous effort time and cost factor. but for combined cycle process plants are economically viable compared to traditional power plants, also efficiency is also high comparatively.

one more important aspect is combined cycle plant helps to environment, because these plants are clean, almost eco friendly emissions.

however there are some factors when speaking about disadvantages
these plants also responsible for some part of pollution, maintenance cost is more when compared to hydro power and nuclear power stations. natural gas availability will also effect reliability.

Gas turbines are built in a range from 8MW TO 575 MW ( single gas turbine) till the latest models

General elctric, siemens, alstom, ABB,BHEL rolls royce etc., are the leading gas turbine manufacturing companies which are present in market today.

In India, now days combined cycle power influence is more along with renewable sources of energy. when discussing about the profitability commercial firms are more concerned with combined cycle power generation processes than renewable energy sources like solar wind power generations.

alone in india gas turbine based power plants installed around 30000 MW ( almost) which were developed just in 15 years where as coal fired plants are about 1,67,707 MWs ( approx). as a matter of fact the coal plants are about to be reduced in phase manner by year 2035 due to cutting of carbon emissions

so in future power plants will be mainly dependable on renewable as well as green fuels like natural gas, LNG, RLNG etc.,
